The Portland Pickles, a collegiate summer baseball team, have made history by becoming the first professional sports team in the United States to legally sell THC products at live games.
In a groundbreaking partnership with Cycling Frog, a hemp-derived THC beverage company, the Pickles began offering infused seltzers at Walker Stadium on June 18th. The move has garnered significant attention and sparked discussions about the evolving landscape of sports and cannabis.
Cycling Frog’s THC seltzers, available in passionfruit and lemon flavors, contain 2mg of THC and 4mg of CBG per can. The drinks are sold at three locations within the stadium: the Jack Daniels Party Deck Bar, Dillon’s Hideaway Bar, and a standalone pop-up.
The partnership with Cycling Frog aligns with the Pickles’ reputation for innovation. Ross Campbell, VP of Business Development for the team, stated, “The Portland Pickles have a responsibility to set a precedent for innovative partnerships. As we’ve demonstrated in the past, we’re not afraid to push boundaries and lead the way.”
The legality of selling THC products at sporting events is a complex issue. However, the Pickles have worked closely with the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission (OLCC) and Portland Parks and Recreation to ensure compliance with local regulations.
By offering THC seltzers, the Pickles are not only catering to a growing market but also contributing to the ongoing conversation about cannabis and sports. As more states legalize marijuana, it is likely that other teams will follow suit, potentially reshaping the way fans experience live events.
